On December 9, IAM Local 2949 President Stephanie Karelis and Vice President Steve Nickel presented a donation on behalf of the local to Esperanza En Escalante (EEE).
The mission of EEE is to provide transitional and permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans and veterans’ families, as well as offer social rehabilitation to nurture and support the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
“The majority of Local 2949 members are veterans and understand the sacrifice and lifelong mental and physical scars that military service can leave behind,” said Karelis. “We are thankful for the services EEE provides to veterans, and Local 2949 is proud to support our community.”
“I am extremely proud of the generosity displayed by the membership of Local Lodge 2949,” said Western Territory General Vice President Gary R. Allen. “Our service men and women who have made great sacrifices for our country should want for nothing when they return to civilian life. The fact that so many of them struggle to make ends meet is a moral failing in our country. I am grateful for Local 2949 stepping up and taking part in providing this much needed assistance.”
EEE is a non-profit organization (501c3) formed in 1989 by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 106 of Tucson, Arizona. More information can be found at the nonprofit’s website: https://eeeveterans.org/
