The IAM and its members fighting Alcoa Intalco’s decision to close its aluminum smelter in Ferndale, WA, has the staunch support from IndustriALL Global Union and its 50 million members worldwide.
In a letter to IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr., IndustriAll General Secretary Valter Sanches made it clear that Alcoa’s misguided decision to close the plant will have a devastating impact on its workers’ livelihoods.
“We stand shoulder to shoulder with the sisters and brothers of IAM at the Alcoa Intalco aluminum smelter in Ferndale in their struggle to find a solution to save this strategically important plant, and keep the jobs of the 600 sisters and brothers of IAM Local 2379,” said Sanches.
The IAM is an affiliate of IndustriALL Global Union, which represents 50 million workers in 140 countries in the mining, energy and manufacturing sectors and is a force in global solidarity taking up the fight for better working conditions and trade union rights around the world.
