On this week’s edition of the Activate L!VE webcast, Brian Urban, a member of IAM Local 2379, outlined the fight to save jobs at Alcoa Intalco in Ferndale, WA, where 600 members are scheduled to be laid off by the end of July.

The show also featured Jerame Davis, the Executive Director of the AFL-CIO constituency group, Pride at Work, as he reacted to the landmark Supreme Court decision Monday to ban workplace discrimination against LGBTQ+ workers.

Machinists Mourn IAM Activist Wayne Wallace

Wayne Wallace, a long time IAM member and officer, passed away last week at the age of 83.

Wallace’s roles included serving as IAM Local 23 Business Representative, IAM District Lodge 96 Business Representative, and President Emeritus of the Georgia State Council of Machinists. Wallace retired in 2006 and had 39 years of consecutive service.

“The IAM and the state of Georgia mourn the loss of a dedicated leader,” said International President Robert Martinez Jr. “Wayne was a U.S. Marine veteran and mentored numerous IAM members throughout the state of Georgia and local Savannah area. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the Wallace family during this difficult period.”
